Locked the toilet, resorted to ‘Kali’ to remove the stench!

Sangrur (Sukhwinder Singh Bawa):-
The Punjab government and the municipal council are making big claims to make the city clean, but the ground reality is telling something else. The public toilet built in Kola Park Market, considered the most vibrant and posh market of the city, has been closed for a long time. The performance of the Sangrur Municipal Council is currently ridiculous. The public toilet built here has been locked using the excuse of lack of employees, so that people coming to the market are now forced to pollute the roads and walls.

The ‘white’ jugaad of the administration

When people complained about the stench and dirt, the administration instead of finding a solution to open the washrooms adopted a spicy method. White lime was sprinkled around the toilet to cover the dirt. Local shopkeepers say that the authorities may be thinking that sprinkling lime will stop people’s movement or eliminate the stench.

Hell-like conditions outside hotels

Surprisingly, there are two big hotels right next to this pile of dirt and closed toilets. When tourists from outside land here, they are greeted not by the whiteness of lime but by the stench of open urination. The municipal council officials are fast asleep and the public is forced to live a hellish life. The question arises whether even recruiting a sanitation worker in a city like Sangrur has now become a mountain-sized task

A world of dirt and stench

People coming to the market and passers-by are facing immense difficulties due to the locked washrooms. Due to no other option, people are forced to urinate in the open around the toilets and along the walls. Due to this, an unbearable stench has spread throughout the area. It is worth mentioning that two big hotels are located very close to this toilet, where hundreds of guests visit daily. The filth spread due to open urination is not only spoiling the appearance of the city, but also poses a risk of spreading serious diseases.

Protest among shopkeepers and passers-by

Local shopkeepers expressed their protest and said that the issue has been brought to the attention of the officials of the concerned department many times, but no action has been taken so far. They said that on the one hand, the government is spending crores of rupees under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but on the other hand, due to the shortage of just one employee, the public is not getting the benefit of the facilities that have been built. Especially women and the elderly are facing the most trouble due to this problem.

Demand for immediate solution from the administration

The residents of the city and representatives of the business community have demanded from the Sangrur Municipal Council and the district administration that a sanitation worker be immediately appointed in this public toilet of Kola Park and that it be opened for the public as soon as possible. The people have warned that if this problem is not solved soon, they will be forced to struggle against the Municipal Council.
