Sangrur, – A lawyer from the district appears to have paid a heavy price for trying to deceive the court. The case involves him disregarding the orders of the Honorable Punjab and Haryana High Court and misleading the local court to take possession of disputed land.

The case is related to a lawyer from Sherpur town in Sangrur district, Jackie Garg, who, on February 21, 2023, with the alleged collusion of government officials, purchased an acre of land with a seller’s structure for ₹1.75 crore and began completing the paperwork to take possession.

During this time, the landowners became aware that the lawyer had sold the seller’s land and machinery for ₹1.75 crore while only recovering ₹55 lakh.

To address the wrongful sale of the seller’s land, the landowners approached the Honorable High Court for justice. The High Court kept the matter under consideration and issued a stay order on September 29, 2023, preventing any alterations to the land or machinery.

Despite the High Court’s stay order, lawyer Jackie Garg, along with his legal counsel, presented himself in the local court, where he misled the court and ignored the High Court’s decision. He directed government officials to take possession of the land, ultimately securing the disputed land on November 13, 2024.

Government officials disregarded the High Court’s stay order and accepted an affidavit from the lawyer stating that there was no machinery on the disputed land, thus claiming there was no basis for the stay order and giving the possession of the land to Jackie Garg.

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Honorable High Court, on November 26, 2024, canceled the sale of the disputed land due to government errors and restored the land and machinery to the original status quo.

Between November 13, 2024, and November 26, 2024, the machinery, valued at approximately ₹80 lakh, was found to be missing. The landowners have approached the local court again to seek justice.

Legal experts believe that individuals who bypass the rules to purchase land may face severe consequences. “The land is lost, the money is stuck, and jail is also a possibility,” warned legal experts.
